TEAM ROSTERS:

There is no maximum number of players allowed on a team’s roster provided all players have signed the Austin SSC Roster/Waiver form.  It is the responsibility of all team captains to ensure players are in compliance with this policy.  Teams have up until the third week of the season to make changes to their roster.  After the third week, rosters will be frozen.  Roster changes that require additional t-shirts will be subject to availability.  All roster changes must be communicated to and approved by Austin SSC.

WAIVERS:

In order to participate in the league, each player must sign the team waiver. Waivers can be downloaded by clicking here. Captains need to print, have all players sign, and turn in the first night of play. Players not present the first week of play will still be required to sign a waiver with our staff before participating. An Austin SSC staff member will keep your team waiver at the field, or a new one can be printed out. Players who sign up as individuals agree to the waiver electronically when they register.

PLAYER RESTRICTIONS:

A. All Austin SSC participants must be 21 years of age or older prior to their first scheduled game.
B. Players that have participated in Division 1 Collegiate or Professional sports must be a minimum of 2 years removed from participation to be eligible to play in a similar Austin SSC sport.
C. Players may only be on one roster for any given sport on a given night, regardless of if multiple divisions are offered.
D. Austin SSC reserves the right to request a photo ID from any player at any time for any reason.
E. Roster checks will be performed by an Austin SSC Gameday Coordinator at the request of the challenging team.  Only individual players may be challenged.  Entire teams may not be challenged.  The challenging team must provide legitimate reasons for submitting a roster check request.  Challenging teams must report their intention to initiate a roster check to an Austin SSC Official as soon as possible to ensure the preservation of playing time.   Teams lose the ability to challenge a player’s eligibility after the fourth inning.

DYNASTY RULE:

Everyone loves a little competition, but one team dominating a league season after season can spoil the fun for everybody.

If a team retaining more than 6 players has won 3 championships in consecutive seasons for which they have been registered, the SSC will have the option to, in its discretion, request that team to form 2 or more separate teams to promote parity in the league or withdraw their registration. That team will then have the opportunity to form 2 separate teams with each subsequent roster approved by the SSC.

SPORTSMANSHIP:

We are all adults, and the Austin SSC expects all participants to act like it. Unsportsmanlike behavior may result in that player being ejected from the game. An ejection may result in further suspension from participation in current and / or future SSC sports. Ejected players are required to leave the premises immediately. Refusal to leave the premises may result in a team forfeit and/or increased length of suspension.

OVERLY COMPETITIVE PLAYERS:

All SSC sports are intended to be recreational. Any player who is deemed to be excessively competitive and/or overly aggressive may be removed from competition at the discretion of an SSC staff member.

GAME UNIFORMS:

Austin SSC t-shirts are your team’s uniforms. All players must wear their current Austin SSC uniform (past season’s uniforms are not permitted even if they are the same color) to participate and any player not wearing his/her uniform will be will be sidelined for that game. Missing or swapped uniform players’ names will be taken and if they are not on your roster, a loss will be assessed for that game.

All Austin SSC uniforms MUST be worn on the outside of any long-sleeved shirts, jackets, or sweatshirts. Zip-ups that are over the shoulders and arms but are not zipped up are also not permitted to be worn over Austin SSC uniforms.

NOTE = All Kickball players MUST wear shoes while playing (no barefoot players).

UNIFORM ALTERATIONS:

Names on uniforms, numbers, cut-off sleeves, corporate logos, etc, are permitted, as long as they do not cover any logos originally printed on the shirts.

FORFEITS:

If a team is short the minimum number of players by game time, the game will start as scheduled with that team automatically becoming the visitor and batting first. If the minimum number of players does not show up upon completion of the first 1/2 of the first inning, the game will be considered a forfeit.

If the forfeiting team does not have enough players to play an officiated exhibition game, a $50 forfeit fine will be assessed. This $50 fine will go towards your opponent’s bar tab for the following week. Provided the fine is paid on time, the bar tab voucher can be obtained from the league director the following week. Teams that receive a forfeit fine must use it the following week or lose it. If there are enough players of the forfeiting team that are able to play, and an officiated game is played, no forfeit fine will be assessed.

FORFEIT FINES:

All fines must be paid before your next scheduled game by either cash or check (made payable to the Austin SSC). If payment is not received by the end of this next scheduled game, your team will be assessed a loss for this game. Teams will not be allowed to play any proceeding games until the fine is paid in full. Teams that have any fines from the last regular season game will not be allowed back into the Austin SSC for any sport until these fines are paid in full.

If notice is given to the Austin SSC via e-mail (info@austinssc.com) by 5pm on the preceding day, (Friday for weekend games), your team will not be assessed a forfeit fine. This will allow the opposing coach to inform his team of the impending forfeit.

The minimum number of players to play an officiated exhibition game is as follows. Thus any amount less than this would incur the forfeit fine: 5

GAME RESCHEDULING POLICY:

In the event of inclement weather or any other event that causes games to be postponed, the Austin SSC will make every attempt to reschedule all games. In the event of multiple cancellations, the SSC reserves the option to shorten the regular season and/or the play-off schedule. Make-up games may be scheduled on days other than the regularly scheduled days of the week. Neither refunds nor pro-rated refunds will be given if the season is shortened due to inclement weather or due to actions taken by the venue.

BEVERAGES AT FIELDS:

Visible alcoholic beverages and glass containers are not permitted in Travis County Parks. Any alcohol must be in an opaque plastic cup. This also includes carrying a 12-pack or case of beer uncovered to the field. Everything must be in a cooler or backpack at all times. Beverages may be consumed in the dugout, common area, and coach’s boxes, but not on the field of play itself. All players are responsible for removing all trash from team areas and the parking lot before leaving the park.

All Austin SSC participants, officials, and staff share the responsibility to leave all Travis County Park venues in a clean, trash-free condition.

DIVISION PREFERENCE:

Teams will continue to participate in their prior season’s league (social, super social, corporate, or just for kicks) unless moved by the Austin SSC. Super social teams may move up to social, and social teams with a 0-6 or 1-5 record may move down to the super social league. Last year’s super social champion will automatically move up to the social league along with the teams that finish in the top 10%. This format will help balance out the caliber of teams in both leagues.

POINTS AWARDED:

Win – 2 points…Tie – 1 point….Loss – 0 points.

KICKBALL GAME RULES

TEAMS:

Teams shall consist of a maximum of 10 players on the field and a minimum of eight players, with no more than six guys on the field at any time. If a team does not have four females, they must play short and will get an automatic out when that position is reached in the batting order. If you play with fewer than 10 players but have at least 4 females you do not have to take an automatic out. One of the players must be catcher.

All players kick but no more than two males can kick in a row. If a team has at least 4 females, they can re-kick in order to maintain proper ratios. For example, if a team has 9 guys and 4 girls, one girl would be designated in the line-up to kick twice in the “fifth girl’s” spot to ensure proper ratios.

The kicking order is static and cannot change throughout the game. However, fielding positions can be changed between and during innings as long as no more than six males are on the field at one time. The only exception to this rule is that catchers may NOT be changed during the inning (i.e. a female catcher cannot be replaced by a male catcher for specific batters – whoever starts the inning as catcher will be the only player allowed as catcher for that inning).

Each team must have two copies of the batting order. One copy of the kicking order MUST be given to the umpire before the start of the game and the other copy is for the team’s use.

REGULATION GAMES:

Games will last for seven innings, with the game being official after five innings (4 1/2 if the home team leads). No new innings will begin after 46 minutes have elapsed.

During the regular season,there are no extra innings. Games can end in a tie.

Any team that is not ready at game time automatically becomes the visitor and kicks first. If that team gets three outs, and still does not have the minimum number of players to take the field, it becomes a forfeit.

The maximum number of runs allowed per inning is nine. After the ninth run crosses the plate, play will stop regardless of the number of outs. The only exception to the nine-run rule will be in the final inning with the scoring team behind.

The run rule will be put into effect and the game called if one team is ahead by 12 runs or more upon completion of the fifth inning (4 ½ if the home team is ahead)

PITCHING/CATCHING:

The count begins at 1 ball, 1 strike. With two strikes, the batter has one courtesy foul. The second foul with two strikes will be called strike three and the batter out. In 1-pitch format, the count will be 3-2 with no courtesy foul.

The pitcher must stay within three feet of either side of the mound until the ball is kicked. If the pitcher crosses outside of the pitching area, a ball will be called. The kicker does have the option of kicking it if he/she so chooses.

Pitching must be underhand only.

A pitched ball must either roll or bounce at least twice before reaching the plate to be considered a strike.

No bouncing of the ball to the kicker higher than one foot (as measured from the bottom of the ball). If the ball is bouncing higher than one foot off the ground at any point past the female bunt line before it reaches the plate, then it is a ball. However, the kicker does have the option of kicking it if he/she wishes.

The strike zone extends to one foot on either side of home plate, and one foot high. There will be a box around the plate which marks the strike zone. If any part of the ball falls within the zone or hits the line (and meets the conditions above), then it is a strike.

The catcher must be positioned at least five feet behind the kicker and the plate until the ball is kicked. The catcher cannot interfere with the kicker.

If a male is walked with 2 outs and a female on deck, the female must still kick. There is no 2-out automatic walk rule in kickball.

KICKING:

All kicks must be made by the foot only and touched only once. If a knee ball or double-kick occurs, the ball will be ruled foul.

The plant foot must be on or behind the line in front of home plate. If the line is crossed and the ball is put in play on the ground, it will be ruled foul. If a foul ball is kicked in the air and the fielding team catches it, it will be ruled an out.

Kickers may not stop the ball with their foot and then kick it.

Males must kick the ball past the 1st-3rd base line. Females must kick the ball past a line that is 20 feet from the plate. Any kick that does not reach the respective line will be considered foul once it comes to a complete stop. If the ball is fielded before it reaches this line, it is in play and considered fair.

FIELDING:

No more than 6 players on the defensive team may be inside the outfield grass or within 15 feet of the basepaths (if no outfield grass on field).

No player may advance forward the 1st-3rd base diagonal until the ball is kicked. If a pitcher or fielder makes a play on a runner by illegally advancing beyond the 1st-3rd base diagonal, that runner will be declared safe.

If a fly ball is fielded near the foul line, the ball is declared fair or foul depending on where the ball is touched, not where the fielders feet are.

When a ball is fielded by the defense, they may not “kick” it – it must be thrown to its intended destination. A kicked ball by the defense will result in either (1) all runners being called safe with each runner given a one base award or (2) no penalty if the runners advance farther than the one base award.

INFIELD FLY RULE:

An infield fly is a fly ball in fair territory which, at the sole discretion of the umpire, can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort, when first and second, or first, second and third bases are occupied with less than two outs. In this situation, the umpire will declare “Infield Fly”. The ball remains live and runners may advance at the risk of the ball being caught. If the ball becomes foul, it will be treated the same as any foul.

RUNNERS:

Runners must stay within the base line.

Fielders must stay out of the base line unless they are attempting to tag the runner or catch the kicked ball.

If a fielder attempts to physically obstruct a runner from advancing, the runner may advance as many bases as they would have potentially earned had they been able to run unobstructed. This is a judgment call by the official.

There will be an extra first base (aka safety base) placed next to first base for the runner. The fielder must tag the regular base to record the out and may not interfere in any way with the runner’s basepath.

Austin SSC is non-contact and all players must avoid unnecessary contact at all time. Runners must give themselves up, get out of the way, or slide. Interference on the part of the runner or the fielder shall be at the sole discretion of the umpire. If the contact was considered unsportsmanlike, that player will be ejected.

Runners may not engage in a “head first” slide when approaching any base on the field. If a runner’s momentum has caused them to overrun a base, they may “dive back” in a head first manner to regain possession of that base.

Neither leading off base nor stealing a base is allowed.

A runner leading off base before the ball is kicked is out.

Hitting a runner with the ball above shoulder level is not allowed and the runner is safe, except for the following situations:

– If the runner intentionally uses the head to block the ball (runner is out).
– If the runner is ducking, diving, or sliding (i.e. attempting to dodge the ball) and is hit in the head because of this (runner is out).
– If the runner intentionally hits or kicks the ball out of bounds after being tagged out, the ball is dead and all runners must return to their original bases.

Runners may tag on all fair and foul balls. In a tagging situation, the runner may leave base as soon as the ball is FIRST touched by a member of the fielding team.

All ties will go to the runner.

On an overthrow, all players may continue to advance provided the ball is still in play. The ball is dead if it touches sideline players, spectators, equipment, or goes out of bounds.

When two runners are on the same base at the same time, the fielder has the choice of tagging either runner with the ball. The runner who is tagged is out and the other runner is safe and may stay on the base.

OUTS:

A count of three outs by a team completes the team’s half of the inning. An out can be recorded by throwing the ball to the base or hitting the runner below the shoulders.

Hitting the base with the ball does not count as an out. The fielder must hit the runner with the ball or maintain control of the ball on the base on a forced run.

UMPIRE’S CALLING TIME:

When the ball is in the infield and no runners are between the bases, time will be called by the umpire, which signals “time out” in which no runners can advance.

PLAYOFFS:

Playoffs will begin the week after the regular season ends and all make up games have been played. The number of teams in each division to make the playoff will be determined by the Austin SSC. Depending on the season, multiple nights may combine into one playoff.

If extra innings are required in a playoff game, both teams will have the opportunity to bat. The player who was AT BAT the previous inning when the third out was recorded will start at 2nd base with no outs. The batter will start with a 3-2 count with no courtesy foul (1-pitch format). This extra-inning format will continue for all extra innings until a winning team is established.

SUPER SOCIAL DIVISION VARIATIONS:

Curveballs are not allowed. If, in the umpire’s judgment, a player pitches or attempts to pitch a curveball, the pitch will be ruled a ball. The kicker, however, still has the option to kick the ball. All action will stand if the kicker elects to kick the ball.

Bunting is allowed. However, when a male is kicking, the pitcher shall be allowed to advance as far forward as the first bunt line prior to the ball being kicked.  When a female is kicking, the pitcher must remain within the pitching area until the ball is kicked.

JUST FOR KICKS DIVISION VARIATIONS:

Bunting is not allowed. If, in the umpire’s judgment, a player bunts or attempts to bunt, the ball will be ruled foul.

Curveballs are not allowed. If, in the umpire’s judgment, a player pitches or attempts to pitch a curveball, the pitch will be ruled a ball. The kicker, however, still has the option to kick the ball. All action will stand if the kicker elects to kick the ball.

All requirements for a pitch to be a strike remain the same as in other divisions with the following exception: The strike zone extends to two feet on either side of home plate, and one foot high. There will be a box around the plate which marks the strike zone. If any part of the ball falls within the zone or hits the line (and meets the conditions above), then it is a strike.

The maximum number of runs allowed per inning is five. After the fifth run crosses the plate, play will stop regardless of the number of outs. The only exception to the five-run rule will be in the final inning with the scoring team behind.

There are no playoffs. Every team plays an 8 game season. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the season based solely on team spirit!

OTHER RULES:

Some fields may have out of bounds areas. The umpire will declare these areas before the start of each game. If the ball enters one of these areas, the ball is dead and play will stop. Extra bases may be awarded depending on the particular fieldat the discretion of the umpire.

If a rule is not otherwise stated here standard softball rules hold.
